Suggest Remedy For Severe Hip Pain After Multiple Dislocation In An Elderly Person

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: Hi ! I used to be extremely athletic. I believe I have dislocated my right hip three times. It was just hanging there , I could not move it and had extremely severe pain. I definitely could not bear weight as it was distorted. I managed to use my gluteal muscles to return it into place. Is this unheard of ???? Now I am 60. Sometimes I have extreme pain in the groin area comparable to a kidney stone. I have a cane as can barely get around using the cane. The pain is severe. This occurs frequently but not all the times. Three to six times a week. I can barely hold myself up using all the strength in my arms on my cane. I have a bad spine since I was 11 years old. I feel perhaps my right leg has shortened causing this problem. What exercises should I do ????? I had a dental bone graph and can now return to my exercises. Exercises ---- floor to strengthen core and flexibly. Ecliptic machine , sit down riding bike and stair climber. I also remind very flexible let and can still put my right foot to my nose or forehead or ear.

Brief Answer:
Hip dysplasia. Needs an MRI. Physiotherapy. Possibly surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

According to your history, you could be having repeated subluxation of your hip. This could be a congenital disorder, developmental or degenerative.

Yes, It is possible to relocate your dislocated hip especially if the instabikity did to labial injuries or deformities.

I would advise you to get a hip MRI done, Physiotherapy to strengthen your hip muscles, avoid kneeling, squatting or cross leg sitting which are known to repeatedly dislocate the hip.

Once the MRI is done, the issue can be addressed and the line of treatment can be decided accordingly.

Kindly do follow up with me.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
