I have seen a dermatologist and he said its some infection but not a fungal infectionand prescribed me steroid tablets fa two days and halex lotion for the sores on scalp and swollen forehead and eyes.today is the 5th day but the swelling has spread to my lower eyes too. Now my face s huge with swollen head nose ears and eyes.. Only the pus in head has stopped. Am again meeting doc.
1. Please suggest what would be the possible cause and remedy for this.
2. Steroid will affect my health or any side effects?
3. How long should i continue steroid?
4. Has the pus in head went inside my brain or inside my face and eyes and because of this only the swelling is increasing thru out my face??
5. Is it contagious as i hav a small baby? Plz help.
6. Will it affect my vision as the bags under my eyes makes t worse for me to see. Can i keep cold or hot compress for swelling? No pain anywher thou..
7. I hope i have to check with dermologist only. Thanx.

Brief Answer:
irritant contact dermatitis with secondary infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.
I have read your query.
I understand your concern.
As per details, it seems that you have got Irritant contact dermatitis with secondary infection due to application of the oil on scalp.
In such cases, I prefer to advise oral antibiotics like combination of ampicillin and cloxacillin to my patients for 5-7days with anti inflammatory drugs like diclofenac.
In excess reaction as in your case, consideration is given to start oral steroids also.
A short course of steroids is given under antibiotic cover. So it doesn't cause any harm to the body.
The swelling in your case is not due to pus collection, it is the fluid collection as a result of inflammatory reaction that leads to edema of surrounding areas.
Steroids and anti inflammatory drugs would take care of it. It would subside with time.
It Is not a contagious condition.
It will not affect your vision.
presently it is the edema that is causing br in vision.
You should do cold compresses of the involved area.
Yes dermatologist deals with such cases.
Do not worry, you would be fine in few days.
Avoid further use of such products.
I hope it helps.
Take care.

Thanx foR your prompt response doctor.
Can you please elaborate as to how the fluid collection in the inflammatory areas will reduce?
How long am i supposed to be in steroids again and how long will it take for the inflammation and the sores in head to disappear?
You have told me that you would prescribe for seven days but wont the steroids have any side effects in my health?
Should i go ahead to do patch test and a food allergy test to avoid such instances only then i will b able to know which vegetble or fruit or thing am alergic of?
My face looks more like a defamatory face now. I hope you will understand my concern. Pls elaborate

Brief Answer:
steroids and antibiotics duration depends on the response

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
The swelling is due to inflammatory process which leads to transudation of fluid from cells too intercellular space.
The duration of all these medications depends on individual's reaponse. You may need it for 1-2 weeks depending on how your body responds to the medications.
As I told you, steroids do not harm the body of taken for short duration. Secondly there is an absolute indication to use steroids in you so it is unavoidable.
You have developed Irritant contact dermatitis not Allergic contact dermatitis so you dont require patch test.
I hope it helps.
Take care

Brief Answer:
inflammation will subside with time

Detailed Answer:
Don't worry.
The swelling will subside for sure and you will be able to see properly.
Such complications of closure of eyes are so rare and are found in chronic cases. You have an acute episode which will pass with time.
Antihistaminics like allegra would also help.
You just follow your doctor's advice and go for routine check up as advised by him.
You will be fine in few days.
Take care.

Hi doctor..
Met doc today and he prescribed me to continue with steroid tablets for another two days and halex lotion near my eye areas.. Coz now my swelling/infinflammation in forehead and scalp is completely gone but completelymy eye lid and eye bags are swollen fully. So he had asked me to apply halex near eyes. Hoping to get better soon..
Also i need to do a patch test on saturday it seems.
Why is it required and wat does a patch test mean and how different it is from a food allergy blood test?
One last thing, will i lose hair in the scalp area where i had lotsa pus and sores.??
Thanx in advance doctor.

Brief Answer:
yes you may continue with your doctor's prescription

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome back.
Good to hear from you that you are improving.
Yes you may continue with steroids. One thing I would like to add that apply halox lotio in very small amount around eyes and don't rub or massage it.
The swelling of eyelids amd bags would also subside slowly.
Patch test is a test to check for Contact dermatitis. It means a patch of suspected allergens which may be food, soaps , plants etc is applied on your body part like back and reading is taken after 24-48hours by removing the patch to look for any allergic reactions.
It helps us to elicit the offending agent involved.
See hair loss of a particular area occurs when the roots of hair are destroyed .
In acute cases usually roots are not damaged . So it is unlikely in your case.
Still your doctor can examine and tell you about whether it is cicatricial pr non cicatricial alopecia.
You do not worry at all.
You have already started getting better.
You would recover very soon.
Do follow your doctor's instructions.
Take care.
