Question: I had a lipoma removed 3.5x3.5 cm r upper thigh and it was indeed a lipoma. I removed this one because of its size. I have other bumps assuming lipomas throughout other other parts of my body. 1 on left upper and 1 mid thigh. 1 on upper right thigh near my last lipoma and a new bump on my mid r thigh. All fairly small 1-1.5 cm. i also have one on shoulder blade and two bunched together on back of r leg on upper hamstring. 1 also on my r arm side of bicep. Most of these i have had for a while and seem to be getting a few smaller bumps as well lately. My dermo said all lipomas but will remove the rest if its a worry to me. I am afraid maybe one of these could be liposarcoma? But they are all smaller than 5cm and none are deep. I was also told that since i had one lipoma verified it was really unlikley to have a sarcoma with multiple bumps present. Please help because i would like them out but its going to get expensive.

Brief Answer:
liposarcoma is very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query and I can understand that you are concerned about these lumps.

Considering the localization of these tumors ,the number ,the diameter it is very unlikely for them to be liposarcoma or another malignancy.
It is very unlikely for a malignancy like liposarcoma to present with multiple lumps .Usually the mass in liposarcoma is unique that tends to increase over time and reach diameters up to 10 cm or more. This kind of tumor can affect the surrounding structures causing symptoms like pain, tenderness, numbness fatigue ,weight loss.

Since your lumps are ,multiple, localized in different part of body, small and superficial , they are lipomas.
You don't need to worry ,they are harmless and they can be removed only for cosmetic purposes because they don't cause any health problem.
Liposarcoma is really unlikely in your case.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.

So does superficial mean its raised or on top of muscle? I have some that you can notice by feel and other by look. Is it normal for them to all start slowly forming under skin and what seems to be on top of muscles. Not deep in the muscle at all. I have always been bumpy but now i seem to notice them more. Is this just normal for lipomas?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Superficial means that they are formed just under the skin (this because the origin of them is fatty tissue which is localized under the skin).
Lipomas might be raised and you can see them or you can just feel them. This depends on the size of the lumps. If they are small they only can be felt under the skin but as they increase in size you can also see them.
Being localized under the skin and over the muscles is very characteristic for lipomas.
Lipomas form and increase size slowly over time and this is very indicative for their benign nature.Lumps that appear and increase in size quickly are suspicious and may suggest a malign nature of the lump.
It is very common for lipomas to be multiple and localized in different part of the body. They have formed slowly probably times ago but now their are in size for you to see or to feel under the skin. This is the reason why you notice them more now.

Hope it helps.
Take care,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Liposarcoma is a malign tumor that is part of a class of tumors called Soft Tissue Sarcoma because. These tumors occur in soft tissues everywhere in the body.
Soft tissues refers to the tissue that connect, support and surround other body structures which include muscle, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons .
These are also referred as deep tissue (the tissue localized deep in the body ,between organs or other body structures.

Liposarcoma originates from the fat cells in the body.It is rare for this type to affect the fatty tissue under the skin (like lipoma). It usually affect fatty cells in deep tissue.
