Brief Answer:
Hydrocortisone suppositories are safe even if used for long

Detailed Answer:
Helo. Thanks for putting your query in HCM

I can understand your concerns

Bleeding per rectum in patients with prostrate cancer who had received radiation therapy can be due to radiation proctitis, recurrence and spread of cancer to rectum or some other unrelated cause like hemorrhoids.

Since it is controlled by hydrocortisone suppository it may be due to radiation proctitis or hemorrhoids also. And your doctor has told you that ther are hemorrhoids

Now coming to the management part:
Hydrocortisone suppository acts locally and has very small systemic absorption so side effects are also minimal. So can be used safely for a longer period of time

Other medicines which are aso useful in hemorrhoids and which I found very useful in my patients are:
1. Calcium dobesilate. There are available in capsule form in 500mg strength (OTC) and is to be taken thrice a day for 2 weeks
2. tab Sitcom forte which contains Euphorbia prostrata extract that contain flavonoids and is very useful in hemorrhoids, to be taken once in day (OTC)
3. The most important is to make your stool softer that is avoid constipation by taking lots of fibres and fluids in your diet

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
