Question: Its all started with unwanted smell undernith skin of my penis and I showed it to doctor, doctor gave fucidin ointment to be applied two times a day and oral medicine zathrine 500 mg. Slowly i can see red rashes on various spot on penis. I have been applying fucidin ointment from last one month but seems recovery is very slow. Even after applying fucidin ointment, there has been burning sensation. I am thinking of changing doctor now as improvement is very slow. Do I need to show this to dermatologist or sexologist. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Most likely combination of fungal and bacterial infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely combined fungal and bacterial infection (balanoposthitis).

For this condition using ointments containing anti fungal agents like miconazole , anti bacterial like gentamycin and corticosteroid like beclometasone for local application will be helpful.

Avoid soaps and irritants to wash the genital area. Instead you can use saline or warm water.

For this consulting a GP will be enough.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Hi, needed more advise on this matter. I have been using fucidin ointment from last one month but recovery seems very slow as rashes are still there and kind of few ulcer sign on penile skin. Also I get burning sensation after applying fucidin ointment for sometime. Get regular itching sensation throughout day. Wanted to know how much time does it take for recover or if there is any need to change cream. Can sex be continued as this seems fungal infection and if this would transmitted. To add I am allergic to sulpha.

Brief Answer:
Fucidin wont be effective for fungal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

Fucidin won't be effective for fungal infection. That is why i suggest you for using ointments which contain anti fungal , antibacterial and corticosteroid. This will help to clear up your condition. There is no sulpha in ointment i mentioned before.

Avoid sexual intercourse till it heals. Fungal infection can spread by sexual contact. But if you had risky unprotected sex before getting this then better to go for swab test. In such case consultation with dermatologist will be helpful. If there is no such history then nothing to worry.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
