Brief Answer:
Post Nasal Drip. Steam, mucolytic. Ear drum examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. From your description, this seems to be a Post Nasal Drip (PND) of mucus following a cold.

2. Since the sputum culture is negative, this PND will reduce with a course of an anti allergic, mucolytic medication along with steam inhalation and saline nasal washes. Rest, adequate warm fluids, bland food and medicated gargles are recommended.

3. The ear drum must be examined to rule out any ear drum perforation. The ear problem is usually a result of the cold and chest congestion. Any ear discarge can also be cultured. Except for an eardrum perforation, the ear should heal with medication.

4. This is a common problem and will settle with time and supportive medication.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
