Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2016
Question: Oh, cool. I didn't know there was a doctor here.
I've had a painful lump under my left jaw for about a month. At first it hurt only when I touched it. Now it's larger, it's hard, and it hurts constantly, pain extending up to my ear.
I also have a sore throat and a constant cough.
Also night sweats and difficulty swallowing
No fever
Oh, age: 61. Weight: 300 lbs. Height: 5'4"

Brief Answer:
Tonsillitis /otitis / infected teeth to further check

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

The painful lump you've been having on your left jaw is swallowed lymph node. That might be due to :
- infected teeth : get them checked by a denist
- tonsillitis
- ear infection
To determine the cause, I advise to get a thorough ENT examination.
As I was reviewing your medical history, I noted that you are currently taking claritin, which is used in cases of allergies.

Apart claritin and ibuprofen, you need to take prescription antibiotics.

Wish fast recovery!

I don't have teeth or my tonsils. So that narrows it down. But if it's an infection, why don't I have a fever?

Brief Answer:
Viral infection as common cause associated with low fever

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

If no teeth or tonsils infection, then, ear infection and /or infection of the lymph node (lump) itself are also to consider.

There are some types of infections that affect lymph nodes which are not associated with fever or with low-grade fever (e.g. virus).

Hope it answered to your queries. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
