Suggest Remedy For Pain In Testicle

Posted on Fri, 20 May 2016
Question: Hi~ I have a 12 year old boy who is having pain in his right testicle. It is not swollen but very tender to the touch. We have checked the area around to make sure it was not a pulled muscle in his groin since he had a hard work out in Tai kwon Do last evening but it seems to be very localized in the one area. His left side is not tender and there is no visible signs of bruise or trauma. Just curious if I can wait to see his pediatrician on Monday or does it sound like I should take him sooner.

Brief Answer:
I suggest to get him to emergency immediately

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

I can understand your concern.
Pain in testis can be due to infection (orchitis),pull/stretch of surrounding muscle or testicular torsion.
As testicular torsion is an emergency condition it should be ruled out at earliest. He may need color doppler test to see the adequacy of blood supply.
If the test is suggestive of torsion he need to get operated urgently to preserve the testis.
Usually torsion or orchitis are associated with pain, swelling and tenderness but sometimes the classical clinical picture may not be there.
So I suggest you to take him to emergency immediately and get him examined to rule out any possibility of testicular torsion.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more queries.

Thank you so much. Does it make a difference in your prognosis if I told you that he says it hurts only when it gets touched or jiggled? He says it actually feels okay if he is in the right position and not "crunching the area or touching it". I am sorry-I neglected to get this info before I reached out!

I am worried only about testicular torsion. It can present in various ways and as it is an emergency condition every remote possibility must be ruled out.
Even if the clinical presentation is not very much suggestive I suggest you to get him evaluated.

All the best.
