Question: Hello doctor
I've receive surgery for torn meniscus approx 11 months ago. I continue to have pain, weakness, swelling. I recently received gel injection of Ovrvisc. No change to my symptoms. But, their is increased pain to the back right area of the knee. Seems like around the ligament. My doctor stuck me three different times with a long needle to administer gel injections. It was super painful. Second injection it was bleeding, badly. And I had trouble walking for several days. I wonder if the doctor might have punctured a nerve, during his injections. It very painful now. Pain level reaches 6 and 7. Feel similar to a muscle spasms. What are your thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Pain is due to osteoarthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I can assure you that this pain is due to osteoarthritis and this has no relation with nerve injuries. I think your meniscus was torn due to knee arthritis and in such cases arthroscopic menisectomy is not useful. Viscosity or steroid injection offer temporary relief. So even after these measures your pain is not controlled then you should think of getting knee replacement surgery.
This is the only option which gives you permanent pain relief.
meanwhile avoid sqautting and sitting cross leg. Do not use stairs. Also use hot water fomentation and knee cap. Pain killer like tramadol or Etorixoxib can be used.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
