Question: 42 year old female with history of major abdominal surgery (3 years ago, major hysterectomy with 8 inch gash running down from her belly button and who was narowly spared a partial colonectomy) is travelling in Mexico and gets a sudden onset of extreme nausea and vertigo. Blood tests show titers for Proteus OX 19 1:320 and Salmonella 1:40 and show normal lymphocites, etc. No stool samples have been done. Not responsive to Cypro, Amoxicillin, Dioxicicline and another that we did not get (we are negociating medical care in Mexico). Somewhat responsive to Ceftriaxone. SLOWLY starting to heal. Early morning and late nights seem to be the worse. Stomach cramping, gas, bloating, low fever and VIOLENT NAUSEA/vertigo. We have a dog who she has bathed recently.

Brief Answer:
Stomach bug

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Since she developed these symptoms after she started travelling in Mexico, it is very much that she has acquired a stomach bug.
The symptoms of stomach cramping, gas, bloating and nausea may indicate infection with organism like giardia.
I would advise a stool test be done.
A course of metronidazole would be helpful.
She can in addition take a course of rifaximin and probiotics.
For relief of nausea she can take zofran.
I hope that answers your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
