Question: I went on a roller coaster today that went 67 mph, in all directions. As I was getting off, I vomited but held it in my mouth until I got off the ride and made it outside. Afterwards, expelling the vomit, through my mouth and nose, I have since been coughing up what appears to be residual vomit and my sinuses are still feeling weird and throat is still burning. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
mtion sickness, prevention is better than cure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I see similar cases amongst young people who visit my clinic, it is due to motion sickness.

vomit contains gastric contents, which are acidic in nature. One of the common complications of vomiting is re-routing of the vomit to the air passages via the trachea and into the lungs. This is called aspiration. it can presents with cough with wheeze can transform into aspiration pneumonia.

it also leads to esophageal tear, vomiting contents can go into nose or sinuses causing sinusitis and sore throat.

I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon for evaluation by ent examination to rule out sinusitis, laryngoscopy to rule out hoarseness, xray chest-to rule out aspiration.

presently, you require antibiotics, antacids. in future to prevent motion sickness you can try meclizine or Phentermine (after consultation of ent surgeon).

mean time, you can start steam inhalation, salt water gargling to releive from change of voice, cough and sore throat.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
