Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: almost monthly I get one irregularly shaped sore on my buttocks area that are kind of blistery and itch. They appear and then dry up and disappear within one to two weeks. Have always appeared on my left side until today when on appeared on my right. Have treated with hydrocortisone and neosporin with success. Wondering if this is some kind of virus that needs special treatment to get rid of forever.

Brief Answer:
Requires oral antibiotics and screening for diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Thank you for writing to HCM.
This is Dr.Riyanka Chail answering your query.

I have read your query in details.
I would like to comment that persistant infections are a sign of low immunity(seen in diabetics, immunocompromised diseases, over usage of steroids) .

It would be helpful if you could get tested for diabetes through tests like:
1. Fasting blood sugar levels
2. Post prandial blood sugar levels.

Kindly consult a physician regarding prescription medications like:
1. Oral antibiotics like ciprofloxacin- tinidazole tablets twice daily for 5 days provided you are not allergic to this
.
2. Tablet serratiopeptidase enzymes daily one tablet for 5 days(for quick healing).

The doctors may send a swab test of the pus for culture and sensitivity to know which particular antibiotic is suitable against the organism.

kindly apply povidone iodine ointment on the blister and keep it clean.

Hope this answered your query.

thank you! You suggest that over usage of steroid could cause my problem. I have had numerous injections of steroids in the last 12 months for back pain and arthritis. Now that the injections are finished, would you expect the sores to stop occurring?

Brief Answer:
Yes sores would most probably stop occuring after steroid treatment is over

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Thank you for writing back to us.

Yes long term steroid treatment reduces immunity and can lead to appearance of boils due to immunocompromised state.

Stoppage of steroid will reduce occurance of boils. However, the whenever steroids are stopped their dosage should be tappered and stopped so you can consult your doctor regarding this.

Also , taking multivitamin tablets daily twice for 2 months will help heal boils faster and increase your immunity. You can also take a tablet of vitamin C (250mg) daily one tablet for a month.

Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, green tea as they contain antioxidants.

Hope this answered your query.
