Suggest Remedy For Intermittent Inflammation In Eyes With Mild Pain

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Jun 2016
Question: My wife is suffering with intermitant inflammation ( redness) in her eyes with a mild pain. This disease occurs 3 to 4 times a year, and we have shown to many ophthalmologists, and unless she apply pred forte eye drops, the redness is not cured at all. The problem with pred forte eye drops is that it produces cataract, as its side effect. Other eye drops are not working. Is there any remedy to cure this disease permanently or is there any other substitute for pred forte eye drops in allopathy / ayurvedic / homeo / or other medical branches. I am fed up with recurrence of this disease, as we have spent many years & various tests by spending huge money without getting a permanent cure, besides spoiling the health of eye. Pls suggest.

Brief Answer:
Allergies, auto immune disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and hope to help you with your query today.

Would you please clarify a few things for me?
1)does she have any auto immune problems? (rheumatoid arthritis, vitiligo for instance.)

2)does she wear any prescription glasses?

3)Is she allergic to dust, any food items, insect bites, cobwebs or anything else? Including sunlight, animal protein.

4)you mentioned that it occurs 3-4 times a year for many years? How many years? How long does it last for? Does it go only when treated? When it first started, did she have any other illness first or along with that? Even a parasitic infection. Please try and trace back to remember.

5)what all medications were tried? Please mention the names. (of eyedrops or tablets)

6)does she have any other medical problems? Is she on any medications? Please mention details.

7)has dry eye, glaucoma, Refractive errors/astigmatism, other eye pathology being ruled out? Please mention the tests/examinations done so far with results (even if negative).
Any CT scans done?

8)have you tried to monitor what triggers her symptoms? If so, what were your observations?

9)you mentioned pain and redness. Does the eyelid swell up and become red? Does the sclera (the white part of the eye) and the conjunctiva become red? Any itching or excess watering associated with this?

10)any headaches, nausea or vision disturbances when this occurs?

11)are you non vegetarian? What does your regular diet consist of?

These questions may seem lengthy & irrelevant but I'm trying to find out the cause & get to the root of it to prevent it from occurring & finding a lasting cure. Please bear with me and answer to the best of your capability.

I had a patient, a 56 yr old lady who presented with symptoms of eye watering, mild itching & redness with occasional pain. After doing a lot of background check & after many courses of steroids as prescribed by ophthalmologists, the trigger was cobwebs & dust. Avoiding these or wearing protective Eyewear prevented most episodes.

For the occasional flare up- I prescribed anti histamines, mast cell stabilizers, and eye lubricant drops. This helped to minimize symptoms & reduce frequency of occurrence.

I hope to help your wife. This seems to be an allergic trigger due to an underlying overactive immune system.

Please get back to with detailed answers. The attached report is not very clear. Could you please redo it. Thanks.

Hope to hear from you
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
