Suggest Remedy For Emphysema

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Dec 2015
Question: HCM has a preprogrammed follow up question so I am responding to that. Overall things have been improving. Some days greatly. Past few days not so great. Anxiety was heightened during a poor musical performance and to add to that, we had to unload the musical gear from a trailer and set up in a hurry. Time to go back to relaxing and get breathing back.

Now I have a odd question. A person with copd/emphysema has air trapping When that is evident, does the lungs of that person can they push hard and get some of the trapped air out or not.

Brief Answer:
Deep breathing exercises and chest physiotherapy are helpful in this case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I am happy that stress and anxiety control is helping you in relieving symptoms.
Regarding your question, my answer is this.
Emphysema is structural lung disease. In this alveoli are distructed and loose their elasticity. There is dynamic obstruction more in expiratory phase.
This will lead to accumulation of air. So by no means these pathological changes can revert back to normal.
Their there are certain manuere from which we can remove some of the trapped air.
For this deep breathing exercises and chest physiotherapy are important.
Not just deep blowing but breathing exercises taught by physiotherapist will be useful in this.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Three years ago, during the time period of my mother starting to speed up in her dying days, and when I had a bad relationship and a bunch of other stress related moments, I had a odd and unnerving physical sensation take place. It occurred a few times since but very infrequently. I have noticed it when becoming less anxious and more relaxed. I have pondered if it could be a body response to less hormones being active and removing the tension and brain activity.
I would say I have had it maybe 10 times or so.

Describing it to a few drs when it began, they could not answer what it was but today it began again. as I said it is unnerving when it happens

I will try to describe, When I was a kid, I had a blackout event after overexertion in a sporting event. It was considered that I had not eaten breakfast that morning and that I was over exerting myself. Anyway, I get a 1/2 second jolt in my head like i may faint then a strange sensation that i figure is some form of adrenaline to respond to this. As I said it only occurs when I am in a period of anxiety change.

Drs have tested for Stroke, Heart, Blood work, etc. You have a thought on this.

Have you ever undergone EEG?

I can understand your concern.
Black out events can be seen in anxiety.

Stress can provoke absence seizure.
So please let me know if you have ever undergone EEG (electro encephalo gram).
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

I had to look up the eeg test to see and I do not recall getting one done. I do not know if I had one or not when I was in the hospital three months ago. I was unconscious at the time and the hospital thought I had a stroke. I'll have to investigate I have no physician nearby. I may have difficulty getting a test unless I find one

Brief Answer:
Absence seizure is just a possibility in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Absence seizure is just a possibility.
It can cause episodes of unconsciousness. And stress is the triggering factor for this.
For the diagnosis of this, detailed clinical history with EEG are required.
And no need for urgency.
You can talk with your physician and then decide.
Hope I have solved your query.

I have spoken with you so many times that I cant find a responsive answer when I want. So I will ask this again and put the response in a notebook just so not to bother you with a repeat question

I have been working the anxiety level down but still have events of physical sensations triggering a panic attack and tension.

Your response to my statement of Climbing stairs and bout of anxious behavior can trigger heightened sensations of Shortness of Breath. Today I have been on edge more than usual and after climbing stairs that I must use to get to my office, as soon as i sat down and grabbed a snack at the edge of my desk, I felt i was short on breath. In your opinion, is this just anxiety working on me.

Brief Answer:
Remove this thought from your mind.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Honestly speaking, your all diseases and symptoms are in your mind only.
You indirectly start thinking negatively while climbing stairs.
You start developing fear and tension before starting climbing stairs.
So my suggestion for you is that you have to remove all fear, thoughts and everything about your symptoms before doing any physical activity like climbing stairs.
Just forget all these stuff. Don't think or let your mind to think towards all these.
Just be relax and calm. Be happy and stay stressful.
Don't assume that I am going to climb stairs and I will be winded.
No, don't think like this.
Think about music, sports, happy moments, creat new tunes while climbing stair.
Keep your mind engaged in above mentioned activities while climbing stairs.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thanks, to follow that plan and not follow the physical sensations is definitely a big challenge. To uncouple the sensation that air is stopped because the lungs are either damaged or filled with trapped air and can no longer expand when I need them to and your thoughts is gonna be a long road to go

Sorry to confuse you with my random words. I was saying that i have let thoughts of the past pollute my thinking and cause chest discomfort. Also that I need to get rid of these thoughts and it will take some work to get rid of it. The old thoughts were from a previous PFT that said mild air trapping so I let that bother me sometime back.
