Suggest Remedy For Dizziness And Lethargy After Using Fentanyl Patch

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: I decided to use my dads fentanyl patch the other day because my back was hurting really bad for the past few days. Yesterday, I didn't have any side effects. But today I have quite a few. I'm very dizzy, constantly. I'm very sleepy to the point where I can barely keep my eyes open. When I'm trying to watch tv or text,I have to close one eye so i can see everything. Otherwise, it looks like there 2/3 of them. My muscles are very sore. I'm very weak. And I'm itching alot. Also, my balance is off. I dont know if I'm overdosing or not. And if I am, should I go to the hospital? I have a pretty high tolerance to opiates seeing as how I'm a recovering addict. I'm not really sure what to do. Please help me!!!!

Brief Answer:
cannot say in your particular situation

Detailed Answer:
and some serious side effects like overwhelming allergy can occur that need immediate attention. In general, these are the expected results of newly using a moderate or high dose of fentanyl.
Sleepiness... a direct action of narcotics
nausea
histamine release often occurs and is why there is itchiness

The tolerance to opiates fades certainly months after the last use.

Taking someone else's narcotics is a sign of addiction.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are a good drug instead of high dose narcotics for the treatment of sore muscles.

Ok. I am no longer an addict. And I cant stand when doctors speak to you that way when you're a recovering addict. Please treat me with some respect. My dad gave me the patch because its all he had left that would help. It was our last resort. I also have a very dry mouth no matter how much I drink and my hands are shaking. Im very weak and a little disoriented. What I'm asking is, are these normal side effects of a fentanyl patch or is it symptoms of overdose? If its symptoms of overdose, should I go to the hospital or no? And if they're normal side effects, about how long until they either away? (I took the patch off about 9/10 o'clock this morning. Please HELP me. Im scared. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Fentanyl sticks in the skin

Detailed Answer:
for this reason the drug keeps absorbing after the patch is removed for up to 24 hours after removal (but I suspect the peak is 12 hrs or LESS after removal). So, if you've removed the patch more than a day ago, then conditions can only get better. If it is 6 hrs or less... cannot say.

Overdosage if it is occurring can become worse if someone takes another sedative.

Fentanyl--at any dose--has more central nervous system effects than probably any other narcotic (it interacts with the receptor that PCP also hits). But, this effect diminishes with removal of the patch.
The regular and overdose and atypical (like allergic reaction for example) effects of fentanyl look quite similar and cannot be distinguished without an exam at the least (mostly not even with the examination).

Fentanyl is longer lasting than most narcotics.
