Brief Answer:
Combination of ambroxol with salbutamol will help

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

I can understand your concern.
I would like to know if there is any fever, difficulty in swallowing or throat pain,as these are suggestive of sore throat.
In case of sore throat(if strep test is positive) antibiotic will be needed.
Mucinex contains Guaifenesin which is a mucolytic(mucus thinning agent). It has been seen that in case of congestion some spasm of airway is invariably associated. So adding bronchodilator like salbutamol would provide relief.
I would suugest you to give him combination like ambroxol(also a mucolytic)and salbutamol(bronchodilator) for better relief.
Look for the signs of sore throat and if these are present get him evaluated by a physician and discuss for the need of test and management accordingly.
Giving steam inhalation will also add some relief. If there is nasal blockage putting decongestant drops in the nose will be helpful.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your baby's speedy recovery.
Regards
