Posted on Fri, 23 Oct 2015
Question: I have burning pain in both of my hips and upper thighs. The pain is aggravated when I lay on my sides. I also feel small lumps under my skin in these areas. The pain feels as if it is in my bones. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Well a lot of ideas

Detailed Answer:
but you start with what you know and go from there.
there are not that many organs on both sides...kidneys...and a bilateral kidney infection or irritation or autoimmune disease is quite serious and needs evaluation quickly.

it would be burning might have spots.

spasm of muscles might also especially if it was from underlying lumbar disk disease

well, the pain isn't near my kidneys or any organs. It is on the sides of my legs, where the large muscle is. But the pain is deep, and radiates down my thighs. Also not near the lumbar. If you were to lay on your side, the top of the leg where it connects with the hip. That is where the pain originates. I cannot sleep because of it. Also, hurts all the time, but is much less painful when standing.

note that pyriformis and cauda equina syndromes overlap significantly. and both are still symptoms but not the disease and diagnostic studies are needed to know why the nerves are irritated (generally, chronic trauma like operating in high gravity onto the legs). can be with tumor, congenital problems in the bottom of the spine, other causes.
