Suggest Remedy For Blood In Stool While Suffering With IBS

Question: I had passes a bloody stool a couple of days ago and a bit concerned, the stool itself had some blood in it and when I wiped there was a mucussy blood on the toilet paper. I had some episodes in the past when I lost my appetite and was only passing mucus, I went to the Dr. last year and had some test done and got second opinions. I had two occult tests done by two different Dr's and all came back normal, I had a full abdominal X-ray and a lung X-ray and blood tests done and all was normal. 2 days ago I had the episode with blood in the stool and since then my stools have been back to normal with no trace of blood. My question is can this be cancer? wouldn't the abdominal X-rays have shown some kind of mass? and I heard colon cancer was slow growing. So basically my Doctor, wasn't very concerned, why order an X-ray, blood tests, occult blood tests, etc? Would colon cancer possibly show presence with one of these tests? He did however diagnose me with IBS, when I look up mu symptoms on the internet cancer always seems to be one of the causes. I dont have medical insurance at the time so going to the Dr, isnt very cheap, this is why I am trying to rule out possible causes, maybe I need to relax. I added a picture of the stool, it was redder like a blood bit lools different on picture, tell me what you think? I don’t want to get caught off guard and have cancer, does this look like possible hemorrhoids or a fissure?

Brief Answer:
Anal fissure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Some of the common causes of blood in stool are hemorrhoids, fissure, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer.

I saw the photo you have posted. It is blood streaked. Blood streaked stool is a feature of anal fissure. Take stool softeners and do sitz bath.

But since you have mentioned about mucus also, inflammatory bowel disease is another possibility.

Though cancer is in the list, it is less likely taking your age and negative familly history (presumption) in to consideration.

Stool occult test may miss them.
The best test is a colonoscopy.

You can get a colonoscopy done to rule out inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

So cancer is a possibility? Shouldn't the Xray show some type of mass? Im kind of nervous now, so it isnt common for a 33 year old.I am afraid its cancer but dont have insurance to see GP

Brief Answer:
Anal fissure- most likely cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Cancer is a possibility. But a very rare possibility and comes lower down in the list of bleeding per rectum causes in a 33 year old individual with no family history of colorectal cancers.

A plain xray may not show it. But a barium xray (barium enema) may show it.

As mentioned in my previous post, Anal fissure is the most likely cause in your case.

Dr.R.K.

Brief Answer:
No

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
No.
Colon and stomach cancer patients do not always experience a bloody stool.

I would reiterate again that fissure is the most likely cause in your case.

A rectal examination and a colonoscopy as suggested earlier will let you know the cause.

Dr.R.K.
