Brief Answer:
Your baby is gaining weight well - don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi...There is nothing to worry about it. Your baby is gaining weight well. I will tell you the scientific reasoning behind it.

Any newborn baby will lose 10% of the body weight and will again regain it by 14th day. So even if we assume that the baby was again 2.6kg by 14th day, now the baby is 28 days old. So he has gained 26.6 g/day which is quite normal.

He is urinating also well, so do not worry.

Please keep giving him exclusive breast feeds till he is at least 6 months of age. It will be very beneficial for the baby.

Brief Answer:
This is a normal phenomenon

Detailed Answer:
Hi...this is a normal phenomenon. Nothing to worry about it.

Babies usually spit up some amount of milk while burping.

Regarding the issue of gas - This happens when the baby sucks at the breast very fast and in eagerness to drink milk will gulp in air too. Unless the air comes out like burping or flatus this discomfort will be there and next time check if the baby is sucking too fast and gulping in air too. You will be more convinced. Usually I don't advice any medicines for this as they give only temporary relief.
The two best ways to relieve this distress is -
1. Do not put the baby in lying position after feeding till the baby burps out the swallowed air.
2. If still crying - put the baby in prone position and keep patting the back gently so that the baby passes off the flatus and gets relieved.

Brief Answer:
If you are convinced about low milk production - an give formula milk

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I understand your concern. If you are convinced about low milk production, then you are justified to give formula milk.

If your baby has well adjusted to that particular brand of ProNan 1 please continue that.

Please make sure you follow the dilution methods suggested on the pack of the formula. Usually it is 30ml per scoop without heap.

Brief Answer:
This is evening colic...I have already suggested about it

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... I understand your concern. This is called Evening Colic. I have already suggested the reason for this and also that I do not usually suggest any medicines for this. I suggested so because, any medicine is not going to work and the condition will improve by itself.

Will explain you about the condition once again.

Every time the baby grunts and cries it does not mean that he is in pain. The only expression at this age group for any baby is only cry. The baby may cry for seeing the mother or for mother's or just to put itself at ease from the abnormal sensation which the baby might have. This does not mean that the particular abnormal sensation is always pain. As adults we know that when the urinary bladder is full we need to urinate, but the baby will not realise it. So the bladder sensation also is felt as abnormal and the baby might cry.

What your baby is experiencing is called evening colic and is quite common in this age group. This happens when the baby sucks at the breast very fast and in eagerness to drink milk will gulp in air too.

So wat bout his yellowish green color stool...n black spots on stool?was it blood?is he lactose intolerant?should i change d formula?

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on lactose intolerance and stool appearance

Detailed Answer:
Hi...the stool which you are describing is very common in formula fed babies. Please do not worry about it. The black specks which you are seeing might not be blood.

If you want to be doubly sure about it, I suggest that you give stool sample for stool routine examination at any good laboratory in your place.

If the baby is gaining weight well there is no need to change the formula as he is tolerating its very well.

This is not lactose intolerance. Please do not worry. lLactose intolerant baby will have profuse diarrhea along with blood in the stool and the baby will start losing weight. So this is not the case with your baby.

An active baby who is feeding well and gaining around 25 grams per day is healthy baby.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on milk production and feeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... as I have already told you, every time the baby cries it does not mean that because of milk he is crying or it is painful for him.

Whether he is in pleasure or in pain the only mode of expression at this age is crying.

If it is because of milk he is crying, he should have lost weight and he should have the other symptoms of lactose intolerance which I have explained in my previous interaction.

He is probably crying because air is going inside while feeding with a bottle or he might want mother breastfeeding. If you feel stressed out, the milk production will come down. Please first take off the feeling from your mind that your baby is having a problem.

Mother's mental stress will decrease the milk production. What you can do to increase milk production is - consume some Methi on elder's advise at your home and the other option is taking Lactare capsules, 2 capsules per a day for a period of 1 month.

If possible stop bottle feeding to reduce the swallowing of air by the baby and start feeding by spoon or paladey.

Answered by Dr. Sumanth Amperayani (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Suggestions on mental stress and milk production

Detailed Answer:
Hi....yes ma..... it is it scientifically proven fact that maternal stress or mental stress in the mother will definitely affect the milk production.

The mere thought that your baby is not well itself is a lot of stress for feeding mothers like you. So first be confident that your baby is extremely well and is gaining weight well.

The thought that your baby is well itself will keep stress away from you and increase the milk production.

I will be very happy if you can get back to me and say that your milk production has been increased and that the baby is also gaining weight very well.
