Suggest Remedies For Tendinosis

Posted on Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Question: Hello again, Dr. Tayal. A couple of doctors had told my mother they didn't want to give cortisone shots for the tendinosis because it could weaken the tendon. Is this a true concern when she is in this pain, and what ramifications are there with the injection?
They also told her it would go away in 3-6 months.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Single steroid shot will not harm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Repeated steroid injections given to reduce inflammation of the tendon will cause tendon weakening. But if only one or two shots are given to relieve the acute symptoms then it is not so harmful.
3-6 months is a long time to remain in pain and with restricted activity. She can try other alternative muscle relaxants like thiocolchicoside or tizanidine for relief.
I hope this answers your query.
