Suggest Remedies For Swelling Of The Cheek After Chewing A Fiber Bar

default
Posted on Sat, 31 Dec 2016
Question: I tried a fiber bar and a few hours later, the gums and cheek on the side I chewed became sore. I did my usual dental routine, floss, brush and swish that night. The next morning, my cheek was swollen where the saliva gland is to the size of a golf ball. It was not extremely painful, just uncomfortable. My first thought was a tooth problem but I could bite down on my teeth on that side with no paid whatsoever. It has been 3 days and the swelling has only gone down a small amount. It feels like I chewed glass on that side. My dentist of course is on vacation and these things always seem to happen during a holiday season. I've been swishing with salt water and putting a cold cloth on my cheek but it doesn't help much.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to multiple causes, needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain swelling of cheek after chewing a fiber bar along with soreness of gum and cheek can be most probably an Allergic reaction..

Other reason that is possible is obstruction in the duct of salivary gland..

I would like to know, does the swelling increases more while eating and reduce later or is persistent throughout the day..

Please revert back with answers so that I can guide you specifically..

Awaiting....
Regards..

Hi..
Welcome back..

It seems to be most probably allergic reaction or infection in the salivary ..
If your Dentist is not available you can consult Emergency room and get evaluated..
As of now to relieve pain in cheek you can gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Suck ice pops and avoid spicy foods..
You should continue doing cool compresses and take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
You can take anti allergics like Benadryl after consulting local Physician or Emergency room..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
