Suggest Remedies For Side Effects Of Clonazepam

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Sep 2016
Question: I seem to be showing symptoms of REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. My partner says I am an active dreamer and will often call out or mumble in my sleep and will move my limbs. I don't sleep walk. I intend to make an appointment with my doctor to get diagnosed. I read that Clonazepam (Klonopin) can control this disorder. However, I also read that Klonopin can cause sleep walking. How prevalent is this side effect? How can it be so if Clonazepam is supposed to control unwanted movements during sleep? Is there another treatment for the disorder that doesn't cause sleep walking as a side effect?

Brief Answer:
RBD should be throguly evaluated

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

First of all I like to inform you that sleep walking is not that common with the dose used for RBD of clonazepam (Most of my patients respond at 0.25 mg). Out of the around 60 patients I have seen with RBD only four reported sleep walking till date.

Clonazepam remains the drug of choice or infact only treatment with proven efficacy.

Having said this ask your doctor to evaluate you for possible PD or LBD as RBD commonly presents in these disorder as initial presenting symptom.

I hope this helps you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for my future patients.
