Suggest Remedies For Severe Dandruff

Question: I have server dandruff problem since last 6 months.

I consulted Dermatologist nearby and was using Scalpe shampoo and Flucanozole tablets, but i still did not find any results and its almost a month. Just because of this Dandruff, am having severe hairfall.

Could you please suggest how to eliminate this itchy and unwanted Dandruff permanently from Root.

I tried using Dettol, Listerine Gel and some natural remidies too but these too were uneffective.

After 2 hours of my bath, i could see flaking starting again and some white substance comes up when we scratch the scalpe.

Please help its making my hair fall too severe.

Thanks for being at Health Care Magic,

If I were your treating doctor I would recommend you to use a shampoo containing combination of Ketoconazole and Salicylic acid twice weekly along with application of a lotion containing combination of Beclomethasone and Clotrimazole on the itchy and scaly areas of the scalp twice daily for 3-4 weeks.

Once the dandruff subsides you can discontinue the lotion but shampoo needs to be continued for a long time as dandruff is a chronic condition .

For itching you can take tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg once daily.

Besides this in severe cases I also recommend my patients to take oral medication like capsule Itraconazole 100 mg twice daily for 2-3 weeks.

These are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

I would like to know the following things:

1. Impact of dettol on the scalpe (i could see good results with it for dandruff ).
2. I tried Ketanocozole shampoos like Scalpe and saliciaKT but no use at all, dandruff is formed after 2 hours of head cleaning and its there since 3 months.
3. I want to know its permanent solution.
4. Can the lost hairs be back due to dandruff

Detailed Answer:
Dettol is an antiseptic which usually takes care of secondary infection associated with dandruff.
It is as such not effective in the treatment of dandruff.
If you have tried ketoconazole shampoos and found them ineffective then go for ciclopirox olamine shampoo twice weekly and continue them for a long time.
Also take oral antifungals for a short duration of 3-4 weeks.
There is no permanent solution for dandruff. You have to keep it under control by regularly using anti dandruff shampoos.
Yes the lost hair will grow back once the dandruff subsides.

I Appreciate for the point to point reply Dr.

I found dettol useful than Anti dandruff shampoo's, is it fine if i can continue with the same?

What Oral Antifungals has to be taken? I was taking flucanozole 150.

Good to hear that lost hairs due to dandruff will be regrown. Just wanted to reconfirm. Do we need to do anything for this?

If you are finding dettol effective in your case you can continue using it.
You can take capsule itraconazole 100 mg twice daily for 3-4 weeks as an oral antifungal.
For hair you can take some hair supplements like tablet keraglo men or tablet follihair once daily for 2-3 months.
