Brief Answer:
Buspirone alone is not enough in anxiety attacks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Buspirone prescription clearly points about the anxiety as this is the medication used for anxiety. Unfortunately it takes two weeks to act and not helpful for first two weeks. In this time most person needs antianxiety medication which act immediately (ativan/xanax/clonotril) and I feel same is applicable for your son.

Since he is agitated now it is important to abort his anxiety attack. As a home remedies ask him to take deep breaths (having 4-5 breaths per minute) for a period of 10-15 minutes and it is possible that anxiety attack will be aborted.

In case it does not help visit emergency and provide proper history of medications including ativan on last visit and buspirone as prescription.

I hope this helps you.

What could be the cause of this? He says the first one just can on him Sunday. Feels awful. Like he has to doa speech or jump on a plane. Could he have a chemical imbalance or what?He also says it seems to be tied to his digestive system which triggers it. Has fairly normal bowel movements not constipated but bouts seem to trigger around those times. We are in emergency room now. Can't keep doing this every other night, but he can't function . What can I tell them to look for?

Brief Answer:
Talk for prescription of ativan till buspirone acts

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I am sorry to know that home intervention was not sufficient and you visited emergency which is quite difficult to accesses every other day.

Regarding the cause definitely the neurotransmitter (NT) balance is most likely cause. Nobody knows how this NT imbalance takes place but it is hypothesized that interaction of environmental factors as well as genetic factors are responsible. Regarding association with digestive system it is true that the imbalance takes place for serotonin which is found plenty in digestive system in addition to brain.

At this day talk to your doctor to prescribe ativan/xanax along with buspirone atleast for the duration before buspirone starts acting. This is often two weeks and after than ativan need to be stopped.

hI hope this helps you further.
'Thanks and regards.
