Suggest remedies for rashes on lower abdominal area, hips and thighs

Question: I have a rash that's been with me for about six months. It is localized to the mid- to lower abdominal area, on the hips, and around to the mid- to lower back, also on the buttocks, and tops of the thighs. The scabs that form from this rash appear as very tiny red, round, perfect circles within a lighter red perfect, round circle. Every once in a while, some hives will also appear, but it is mostly these scabs, or sores. There is almost constant, severe itching, and the scratching, of course, aggravates it. When the rash first appeared six months ago, I consulted an urgent care physician, who diagnosed an unknown allergy, and prescribed Prednisone, which seemed to clear it up. Unfortunately, since that time my health insurance has lapsed due to unemployment, so I've been unable to continue the Prednisone. However, I am now in a position where I can at least visit an urgent care facility or even the ER, if necessary. I would appreciate your opinion on what could be causing this rash, and possible treatment options. Thank you!

oral and topical antifungals

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

i am dr. Kakkar(dermatologist).

You seem to have fungal infection i.e tinea cruris.

I would suggest an oral antifungal e.g terbinafine 250mg once daily for 4 weeks.
In addition you may apply 1%terbinafine cream locally, twice daily.
An oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg once daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
Thee are prescription medications and i suggest you to use them under supervision of your doctor.

Regards
