Posted on Thu, 29 Sep 2016
Question: o. I have chronic top of foot pain on L foot... I also have low lumbar pain, which radiates down my left buttock and down the outside of my left leg... My veins on the top of my L foot look like they are swollen or buldging.. I did receive 6 mos of physical therapy last year and did not do cardio or play tennis for 4 months. but the L side issues are currently back not as acute but I feel limited on my left side.. Do I take more time off or continue to use heat, ice and elevate the foot. When my foot is stiff usually after resting, people tell my I am limping.. What would you suggest for treatment?

Brief Answer:
MRI of lower spine and an opinion of a Neuro-Surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
I have read the history well and understood your concerns particularly related to the low lumbar pain radiating down the left lower limb and chronic pain top of left foot.
All the history you have mentioned is suggestive of a problem in the lower spine, may be a prolapsed disc/ lumbar canal stenosis causing the referred pains as you have described.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get an MRI of the lower spine to get the correct diagnosis.
Clinical evaluation and examination by a Neuro-Surgeon.
X-ray if the foot bones in 2 views, just to rule out any local cause.

This will give you the correct diagnosis and a plan for further treatment.
I hope this answers your query and helps you to get the correct diagnosis and proper treatment asap.
Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
