Brief Answer:
A baby craves for the closeness of its mother

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

A baby loves its mother's touch. Therefore the child likes to sleep in the mother's arms. The sense of personal touch and caress gives it a security it craves for. You could begin by putting the baby to sleep first and then put it to rock on a bassinet. Subsequently you could lay the baby on the basssinet, continue to rock it as you sing a lullaby till the baby falls asleep. You could caress the baby while you are rocking it. I think that should suffice. Once the child gets habituated it should be just fine.

Regards
