Suggest Remedies For Lump In The Anal Area

default
Posted on Fri, 6 May 2016
Question: So here is my issue. It all started out of nowhere. I first noticed that I was a little sore or achy in my anal area. Then, afterabout a couple of days, I could feel the soreness on the inside. Like if I would squeeze my anal muscles, I could feel the soreness. That lasted for a few days, and then the soreness turned into pain that would come and go. Then eventually, I noticed that when I would go to the restroom, there would be some white mucous on my stool. I have NEVER seen blood. The mucous is still there, but it is less. Almost gone, and it only is on the end of the stool that first comes out. Well, then I would go to the restroom, and it would hurt for like 30 minutes after I went. Like a dull throbbing ache. Then it would stop. I also noticed for a few days that the smell was slightly different in that area. Today, because of a stool softner, I used the restroom a couple of times, and I had no pain at all. Seemed to be getting a little better. My anus seemed more relaxed. I noticed; however, in the mirror that after I pushed to have a bowel movement that out of my anus was a middle size what look to be intact hemorrhoid (lump with covered skin). And, I could see it slowly move right back into the anus. I think I have seen that little in the past, but it didn't bother me or hurt or anything. But, today, I put some Vaseline on my finger, and went up in there to see if I could feel anything. Felt nothing. About 20 minutes later, I had intense intense pain that felt like a throbbing in my anus...deep inside of it to the right side. I hadn't had any pain all day until I went inside of myself. I could feel the pain radiate and move around after about 20 minutes of solid pain on the right side. It moved to the front, and then to the center, and then it has gone away and does not hurt at all now. I don't understand how this can hurt so bad at times, and then just go away until the next time. It also seems that a couple of times today that I have felt like fullness under my scrotum area...like...a spasm that was pulling and then it will release. I have no idea what is going on.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am Dr.Amit Jain (DM, Gastroenterologist).

I can understand your concerns

Lump that you have observed is most likely the hemorrhoid and pain is due to presence of anal fissure. These are all manifestation of anal fissure.

For this I will suggest you the following which I found very useful in my patients are:
1.Increase dietary intake of fiber. The richest sources include fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread, XXXXXXX cereal, peas, oats and beans.
2.Increase your fluid intake or at least six to eight glasses per day.
3.Exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. A good walk is enough to keep your bowels going.
4.You may also use anti-pain medications of class NSAID like tablet Advil thrice a day.
5.Never delay bowel movement.
6.You can also take laxatives to aid in defecation.
7. Application of Preparation H ointment
8. Take Sitz bath at least thrice/ day
Both preparation H and Sitz bath will help in relieving pain and healing of fissure
I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Wish you a good health

Yesterday...I had a good day. I had no pain anywhere at all, and yesterday, I had a couple of bowel movements early in the morning. However, this morning, I woke up and I felt a pressure, as if I Knew that there was some stool up in me, but that it was not moving down the way it normally should. Then, I got a little out. But then I stopped straining because I did not want anymore troubles. Now, I can tell that there is some stool up there, but it is not moving down like usual. Then all of a sudden it hit me. About a month ago, I started a low carb diet, and I have not been eating any starches like rice, potatoes, pasta, etc that my body was very used to. I am wondering if this could be the source of my issues as I have never had an anal fissure nor constipation before.

Please see reply before this regarding low carb diet. Today no pain until three o'clock pm when I had to pass stool. Seemed to be constipated. It hurt for 45 minutes afterwards then pain sent away. This time there was a lot of white mucous on the stool that came out. Still feels as if there is stool up in me that is just there but not moving down. I'm concerned about the mucous more than anything.

Brief Answer:
Low fibre diet rather than low carb diet leads to constipation

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and sorry for delay

I dont think low carbohydrate diet has to do with constipation, what is more important is high fibre diet which you could get from fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread, XXXXXXX cereal, peas, oats and beans. Also lots of fluids. If you still feel constipated then you may use some laxative. Among all the laxatives I prefer polyethyleneglycol for my patients.

It may also be a simple feeling that stool is remaining which maybe due to presence of fissure and maybe some inflammation in rectum and anal canal. For this take prepration H and sitz bath, both of these will help in resolving this issue.

Mucus is normally produced in our large intestine and it helps in providing lubrication to stool so that it may pass easily. However when there is some inflammation it may be increased. So as soon as inflammation will settle, it will also resolve.

I hope this will help you. wish you a good health

I have now had no pain in two days at all. I did take some of the murilax. Worked well. Even after I use the restroom now and have a bowel movement, I have no pain. A few days ago...before I think I really started healing...the throbbing pain was TERRIBLE. The only thing that I have left that I have a question about is two things.

1. I have a feeling sometimes that it feels as if something is crawling around in my anus. I did not have this before this issue. I can't tell if it is from the stool inside of me liquefying or what..but it feels weird. Ideas?

2. I also still have a little bit of mucous on my stool. Not on all of it. Mainly the beginning of the stool that I first push out....but not the rest of it. Will this mucous on my stool eventually go away even though I am not having any more pain?

See question above this one. Ok. All pain is gone now. Haven't has any pain after bowel movements in about four days. Been taking murilax to soften stool. The only two things that are left over is the mucous is still on stool, and when. I do go to the bathroom, I think a hemmorhoid is swelling, and this lump comes out of my anus, and then it slowly returns back into my anus. It causes me to still feel open until it returns. Saw it in mirror. I'm beginning to think that possibly this could have been a hemmorhoid problem instead of fissure??? Or maybe I had both going on. I don't understand why I have mucous if I have no pain, and I don't understand the sometimes crawling sensation in anus.

Brief Answer:
Take tablet albendazole

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and sorry for delay. I was abroad for some conference

First thing to confirm what is going on, get a proctoscopy examination if feasible. Because after this there will be no ifs and buts

Mucus is produced in every human being and it may be more in case there is any inflammation, or infection and otherwise also

As there is pain , there can also be fissure along with hemorrhoids

Feeling of something crawling around the anus may be due to some worms, or evacuation of mucus or gas. So I will also suggest you to take tablet albendazole 400mg 1 tab stat, to de-worm. Also get stool examination to confirm.

Treatment as a whole will remain the same as I have explained earlier

wish you a good health
