Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: I hadnt worn heals for 4 years because of a surgery. I wore 5 inch wedge heals for an event for six hours where I was walking around for 6 hours. The day after started debilitating pain in my lower back. all I could do is lay flat with minimal pain. Pain would be lower back radiating to hips and down right leg. It is two weeks later, pain is tolerable now. But I still cant sit for very long or the pain is excruciating in the lower back. I have been using NSAIDS & ice. Main issue is cant sit, laying flat has no pain but if I lay on either side it is painful slightly

Brief Answer:
Oral muscle relaxants will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
It seems that your back muscles had a spasm due to wearing heels to which you were not used to.
I suggest you to try back strengthening exercises by extension of the back muscles which can be taught by your Orthopedician or Physiotherapist. This will help to relieve the possible muscle spasm which causes the tightness. One must also rule out inflammatory disorders, for which I recommend you to get a X-ray of your spine after consulting with an Orthopedician. MRI can be taken in case you have any nerve compression symptoms or as deemed necessary by your Orthopedician.

After a thorough physical examination by your Orthopedician, you may be prescribed pain killers and/or muscle relaxants which should give you relief. Physiotherapy may also be advised if necessary.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
