Suggest Remedies For Flatulence, Stomach Growling And Terrible Gas Problem

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Hi doctor i have terrible gas and flatulence and major stomach growlings the earlier i wake up from a sleep. It minimizes throughout the day and if i wake up late. My doctor suggest it to be stress and how i wake up uncomfortable in the morning. We've tried colonoscopy, endoscopy, blood works, stool tests, antidepressants and none seem to work. Ive been tested positive for lactose, I've cut it out of my diet for about 3 weeks and nothing seems to change. I still feel very uncomfortable throughout the day and i dont know what to do. I also have "tingling and shakiness" throughout parts of my body when im idle and i have the need to move around a lot. I am also afraid of being exposed to a quiet environment as my stomach will make noises. My doctor tells me to go to a psychologist for cognitive behaviour therapy practices, and to be honest, I am not convinced. I fully believe it is a health issue still and still surprises me that everything came back negative. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Expert advise/ self care would help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
It's good that you have been already investigated & there is no other more bothering digestive problem. But you don't have relief after withdrawing dairy products.. so you are worried.
Though cause can be psychogenic as your doctor says.. I feel to think of few more factors before we jump & leave the problem .
* Lactose intolerance is many a times treated with totally banning the dairy & milk products .. which in turn results in low calcium followed by decreased intestinal movements . This can cause food lying in bowels for longer time, leading to more gas production & excessive bowel sounds.
This can be avoided by-
- supplementation of lactose digesting enzyme .. as per doctor's advise
- Avoiding large servings of lactose food / eating small servings along with routine meals/ Using lactose reduced milk.
- Eating calcium rich food like Broccoli, spinach, soy products, beans/ having calcium fortified food .. like bread,
-Drinking regular milk with added lactose digesting powder, liquid
To have more specific instructions a consultation of Gastroenterologist would
help.
* Self care- Apart from all these-life style changes like ,
- Regular physical exercises/ yoga exercises .. specially for abdominal muscles ,
- Not to relax immediately after eating .. have a gentle walk/ Sleep after 1.5 to 2 hours after food ,
- Mind concentration exercises for psychological positivity & concentration.
* Thus with proper management of the Lactose intolerance & self care.. you would definitely get rid of the irritating problem in short time.
I hope the answer was both informative & helpful to you.Any followup query is welcome.
Thanks.
