Posted on Mon, 12 Dec 2016
Question: No problem peeing BEFORE surgery, & NO UTI BEFORE OR AFTER SURGERY. SURGERY WAS TO FIND OUT WHY I COUGH & SPIT UP FOAM CONSTANTLY WITH SHORTNESS OF BREATH NOTHING WAS FOUND, NO CANCER. DOCTORS SAY THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSING IT. OVER 10 YEARS AGO I WAS TREATED FOR PROSTATE CANCER WITH HIGH DOSE RADIATION & KILLED CANCER WITH NO RETURN. LUNG PROBLEM NOW 2 YEARS, AM ON SIMBACORT.
URINE FLOW STOPPED DURING SURGERY, & HAD CATHETER IN HOSPITAL & CONTINUE NOW @ LEAST ONCE A DAY. WAS TOLD OLDER MEN HAVE PROBLEM AFTER SURGERY WITH URINE SYSTEM NOT REMEMBERING NORMAL FUNCTION. I FEEL PROSTATE MAY BE ENLARGED, BUT NO PPROBLEM EVER BEFORE SURGERY.
A BOWL MOVEMENT WITH PRESSURE FREEZES URINE FLOW!! CATHETER OK'S IT.

Brief Answer:
Are there times you urinate normally?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I will like to know if there are times you urinate normally without the need for catheter. Also, do you self catheterise when you are unable to urinate? How often do you urinate and in how much quantities? Do you ever feel like the bladder is fully emptied? Do you need to exert some pressure during urination?

I will look forward to these responses before formulating more detailed responses to your question. Also, try and state that single question that must be answered as part of your response.

Thanks and until then, I wish you well.

Yes I self catheterize about once a day, usually early morning after taking flow XXXXXXX & wait about an hour, then self drain. Urinate about 3-4 hrs. the rest of day. No pressure to urinate as flow XXXXXXX does it. Again, a hi-pressure BM stops urine flow, then need to catheterize to open system. Last 2 days I had diarrhea with no pressure from rectum & no catheter needed over 2 days now. I am trying to find if prostate swelling is the problem or rectum pressure. Urologist says bladder nerves might need to be checked & ruled out a TURP.

Brief Answer:
I will say get the prostate checked!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This seems a bit strange. A high pressure BM might cause a vasovagal response shutting down the urge to urinate which explains why you might stop urinating when it does happens. For a prostate, this is unlikely but I think the prostate needs to be evaluated with a rectal exam and an ultrasound evaluation of the size. If no answers ate gotten, then urodynamic studies should be considered.

Keep me posted on this!
