Suggest Remedies For Burnt Feeling On Tongue After Chewing Tobacco

Posted on Tue, 2 Aug 2016
Question: Want to know your thoughts. I am 36 and chewed tobacco for 10 years. My tongue has been bothering me off and on for 4 months. Saw 3 different dentist and they could not find anything. Then my normal dentist who already examined me twice used a velscope and a small area tested positive for celluar change. He told me I needed to see a oral surgeon for a biopsy. All examinations by all 3 dentist I had did not show any lesions. Just the velscope. I went to the oral surgeon and he did a thorough exam. He had he notes from my dentist. After his exam he said its nothing and felt no biopsy was needed. He told me to check with my dentist in 6 months and not to worry that there is nothing there. He did tell me I had a fungus infection in the mouth that was probably causing my symptoms and prescribed me fungus meds. Do you think I should get another opinion? Should I be worried

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTH CARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns ..

As per your complain as you said your tongue is bothering you but there are no visible lesions on tongue..

Well, I would like to tell you that if there are no visible lesions then the chances of having any cancerous changes is less probable.

Furthermore I would like to know a few more details so that I can guide you better.

1.You said tongue is bothering you, I would like to know what is exactly happening, is there burning sensation on tongue or pain or any other problem, please explain in detail?

2.Is there any white layer/ coating on tongue present?

3.Do you have dryness in mouth?

4.Do you have any medical problems or are you on any Medication?

5.Did you find improvement after taking anti-fungal medicines?

Please revert back with answers..

Regards..

This k you for the quick reply. The feeling I am having comes and goes and it's not even in the spot that the velscope picked up. The feeling is like I burned my tongue when it does bother me. It comes and goes. This have been going on for about 4 months. I do have a white costing on my tongue that the oral surgeon said it is a minor fungal infection, but not thrush. He just prescribed these to me today so I just started taking them. He told me the sensation I am feeling is probably from the fungal infection, which I believe inhave had for the full 4 or 5 months because I asked my dentist about it and he said it was just bacteria. The oral surgeon I saw today said it was a fungal infection. As far as other health issues I do have an enlarged liver and spleen. I just found that out a couple months ago. I went to a specialist and had several different test and exams done and the final diagnosis they gave me was XXXXXXX (fatty liver disease). He said its no worry and I should or be concerned about it. All my test in my liver and spleen came back perfect except the fact that they were enlarged. Outside of that I have heartburn which I am finally getting under control. I had a biopsy done a few weeks ago on my esophagus and all my tissue came back normal. They prescribed me protonix. I am also on hydrocodone for a back injury. The oral surgeon basically told me not to worry that there was nothing wrong. But as a person that worries I wanted your opinion.

And yes, I do have issues with dry mouth as well
