Brief Answer:
Surgery is best option.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for posting your query.
The ruptured disc at L5 is best treated surgically. The repair and fixation is done that decreases the nerve root compression which is causing the numbness of the feet in your case.
Physiotherapy like intermittent lumbar/cervical traction , back and cervical exercise reduces pressure of disc bulge for some time & gives relief.
The following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required ( dont repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food.
• Avoid forward bending.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.
Discuss with your orthopedician and an appropriate treatment can be planned depending on the response to medical drugs.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Surgery may be needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing again.
The treatment of neck depends on the MRI scan findings. If there are severe spondylottic changes then surgical removal of spurs can help.
