default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I had injuried my ankle at work November 13,2015 and a lump on the top of the ankle developed and it's very painful. My ankle is still swollen and the 1st doctor didnt know what is was. At the time the lump was soft and I couldnt get a shoe on my foot. I went for a 2nd opinion and the said something is diffently wrong with the foot. 2nd visit he injected it with a steriod and an anti inflamatary but before then he gave me an anti inflamatory which almost made me bleed to death. Now the lump after the injection is worse then it was and I cant even get a shoe on my foot yet alone I was told I was cleared to go back to work.I am in pain and the pain goes from my ankle to my toe next to my big toe. I called him several times and they never called me back . Now I finally caught them and I have an appointment to him . I think the tendon is ruptured

Brief Answer:
Needs am MRI scan to look for tendon or ligament ruptures

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Ligament tears are common in severe forms of ankle sprain.

Tendon ruptures may be possible thus restricting movement and can firm a swelling.

I recommend you get an MRI of the ankle and foot to find out what it is our even an ultrasound can do if you aren't able to get access to MRI.

Apply warm packs, wear a walking boot if it hurts to walk, keep the limb elevated. You can take pain killers like Ibuprofen to help with pain and swelling but not for long time. Wear a crepe elastic bandage to help with the swelling.

An MRI will definitely shed light on your problem and help decide the treatment.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

had an MRI on November 13th 2015 but they wont give me the report. when the ist doctor view it he flipped through it like viewing a TV channels. then he said to me well you may need a 2nd MIR but didnt write the report. 2nd doctor all he did was take an MRI of the other foot. However there is a limp... everyone is ignoring it. The lump is nothing to them because it's not on their foot nor do they have the pain like I have. I have rested it I have elevated it I have applied heat and cold I have used a boot I have used a splint I have done everything but I beleive I need surgery because i think it's ruptured with an infection and need to be cleaned out with surgery. I feel if I do not have this cleaned out the infection will go into the bone and travel to my heart

I do understand your concern for these problems you face.

If you can't get an MRI, please do get an ultrasound scan of the lump to be clear on what it contains.
