Suggest Proper Healthy Diet For An Infant
Question: Hello my daughter has just turmed 6 months who was exclusively breastfed for 3.5 months as i introduced nan ha formula milk ,one bottle a day progressing to 4 full bottls at 6 months since i stopped breaafeedinng. Two weeks ago she fot a virus i guess that made her throw up and since then ahes been throwinf up it started once every few days to everyday twice i realise she chokes and then throws up and she throws up when its time for her next feed im giving her nexium since she was refusing feeding or when she feeds drinks omly a bit and doesnt want anymore. I realise she has lots of mucus what could be the reason?

I have gone through the details provided by you. Exclusive breast feeding is advised till 6 months of age but after introduction of semi solids, you need not discontinue breast feeding. Please continue breast feeding for a year or so along with the other feeds. NAN is not meant for weaning and is not likely to be helpful. Give the baby mashed boiled rice with pulses and vegetables. You may add chicken or eggs. Basically it would be a mashed version of adult food low on spices. If you want to give formula feeds (less preferred) I would suggest Cerelac Rice.
Now coming to the problem that you are currently facing. It is likely that the baby has contracted an infection in the process of giving reconstituted feeds. Take the baby to your doctor and get the blood counts and C-Reactive protein (CRP) checked in order to rule out infection. Domperidone drops or suspension should be helpful when given thrice a day. I cannot say the dose as I do not know the weight of the baby.

Thank u so much i have realised that i mught habw given my baby frozen breastmilk that could have been not fresh coz it was curdled and smelt like vomit. Could have this been the reason? Would it make her throw up that much and fir such a period of time??? Could it cause mucus? As for Nan HA l

Thanks for reverting back. You can store the breast milk in refrigerator. The technique is to collect milk together in a sterile bottle and then store it after freezing it. You can store it in the frozen form for a long time but once you defreeze it, you have to consume it within 24 hours. The milk should not be heated but should be thawed i.e. melted and brought to normal temperature by placing on normal or slightly warm water, preferrably running. Discard the milk if curdled as that could indicate bacterial contamination. This could indeed have been the source of infection. Vomit like smell can be due to increased lipase content of milk and not unusual. It rather helps the child in digesting the milk. Mucus during throwing up is normal and present normally in the stomach to buffer from gastric acids. No need to give NAN.
If the child is not well i.e. if the baby is not feeding well or is lethargic, get the blood tested.

Nan is theformula milk shes taking as in Nan hypoallergenic what do u mean no beed to give nan thats the brand of her milk . Can u tell me what u mean
