Suggest Pain Medication For Chronic Back Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Apr 2015
Question: What pain medication would be better if you have been taking immediate release morphine 30mg 6 tabs per day for over 16 years, it does not have the good pain relief it used to. I see a pain doc but I just want an answer now. I've had over 20 back surgeries, an I fractured a 16 year old fusion transveresly, I also use eventual patch for round clock pain. My pain doc gave me a spray fentynal but I felt nothing at 800mcg/h. Just like to know what else is better I have nerve damage with foot drop when fractured fusion hit sciatic nerve , not as painful as it was, except for foot.

Neuropathic pain medications may help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your details.

In pain related to nerve damage or injury, neuropathic pain medications help.

These include- pregabalin (lyrica), gabapentin (neurontin) and duloxetine (cymbalta) capsules.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Brief Answer:
Narcotic options are available.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

It is unfortunate to not that these neuropathic pain medications have either not worked or caused allergic reactions.

Among narcotic group, other options include hydrocodone, oxycodone, methadone and meperidine, which are all helpful in providing pain relief.

Best wishes,
