Suggest Medicines For Anxiety Attacks And Insomnia

default
Posted on Thu, 22 May 2014
Question: Hello, I am 54 years old and I'm suffering from severe anxiety attacks and insomnia. I have had 2 strokes and 2 heart stents in the last 3 years. I take alprazolam 1 mg twice a day but I have ran out and the clinic I was going to said they are not allowed to write anymore. I don't know where to go. I have called a couple of doctors in my area and they both tell me they can't perscribe them. What is going on? I'm not a drug addict and I need these to function. Thanks

Brief Answer:
get a new evaluation and prescription

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query, and understand your concern.

Since your clinic has denied you the medicine, and also two other doctors in your area, I would suggest that you go in for a fresh evaluation.

I mean, please consult a new psychiatrist (fix an appointment for the same) to re-assess your symptoms of anxiety attacks and insomnia. After careful evaluation of your current symptoms, I am sure the Psychiatrist would be able to prescribe you Alprazolam or other relevant drug in the right dosage and form.

If your symptoms worsen or you do not get an appointment with the psychiatrist at the earliest, you can go to the ER and let them assess you as well, and prescribe the medicines accordingly.

I understand that you are not a drug addict. However, we need to assess the reason for using this medicine in you i.e. to what function it helps you.

Wish you good health.
