Question: What is a good medication for an XXXXXXX XXXXXXX to take to control hypertension?
Also I have periods when I because stress or excited my pulse will periodically go up to 140.
The metoprolol succinate ER 25 mg help the heart rate to remain within normal limits; but my blood pressure is high and is getting higher.

Here are the medications that are highly effective to treat hypertension for you:
-Thyaside diuretics group of drug ( like hydrochlothiazide )
- Calcium channels antagonist ( like Nifedipine)..
- B-blockers( like metoprolol)

Usally the treatment consist of 2 or more drugs.
You should go to a cardiologist , he /she will prescribe you the medications.
Reduce salt , calcium, intake in your diet .
Increase kalium , magnesium intake.
Do excercise ( at leas 30 min walking /day)
