Suggest Medication Without Any Side Effects For Hair Fall Control

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jan 2014
Question: Hi, I was suffering from hair fungus / scalp infection and as per friend guidance i took homeopathy medicines ( Dr batra) for over 2 years which also included hair fall and alopecia medicines. during the course hair fungus/ scalp infection is cured and i observed my hair has started to become thin. after two years i stopped homeopathy medicine and stopped consulting any new medicine ( due to lot of work). it's above 2 years now my scap hairs have gone more thinner and severe loss of hair is clearly seen as number of strands is less now but covers my scalps some how. i am worried this will worsen soon enough. I have been researching about hair fall control and re-growth little bit on internet, i mostly understood i need good diet and healthy life style, also i see minodixil medicines like rogaine / kirkland minodixil 5% foam which can be externally applied daily twice to stop hairfall and increase regrowth. My Question is which is better way ? are there any other medicines i can confidently rely on without side effects ? or healthy diet with exercise and hair growth foam (minodixil 5%) will be beneficial? i also hear long term hair growth foams will have no effects. or should i go hair transplant. Please Suggest.

Brief Answer: details below Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for writing to us. From the description provided, I understand that you suffer from two hair concern- seborrheic dermatitis( that was treated) and male pattern baldness( androgenetic aloepecia). Male pattern baldness is characterised by thinning or miniaturisation of individual strands as well as decreased hair density. The areas involved are front, sides and centre of scalp. As this type of baldness is governed by hereditary and hormonal factors, hence it is a progressive kind of hair fall. Medicines like minoxidil and finesteride 1mg are approved by US FDA to treat this pattern of hair fall. Now to treat this pattern of hair fall I usually begin with oral hair supplement like androanagen daily along with minoxdil 5 % 1ml twice in a day( tugain, mintop, amexdil, adhair etc). Sometimes if hair fall is extensive or with above mentioned therapy not much response is seen, I add finesteride 1mg daily. The treatment needs to be continued atleast for five to six months to appreciate response. Once response is there we may stop oral medicines and continue with minoxdil only. As its a progressive hair fall, so minoxidil needs to be continued for long. If with these medicines not much response is seen, we may do mesotherapy or go with hair transplant( done only in advanced stages of hair fall). Even before mesotherapy or hair transplant, topical and oral drugs are required to be taken for better response. A well balanced protein rich diet along with a healthy life style should also be maintained. Though lifestyle change alone may not be helpful in this pattern of hair fall. Also i would advise that you use a ketoconazole shampoo(nizoral/scalpe) twice in a week to keep fungus at bay and also ketoconazole is helpful in male pattern baldness Hope this answered your query. Take care

Thanks for the reply and i couldn't stop myself from worrying after doing some posts reading in the same forum: 1. Androanagen seems to have side effects although i am getting mixed results. lot of review in the "healthcaremagic" forum says "the androanagen produce side effects characteristic of men. These include increased growth of body hair, testicular shrinkage, increased sex drive, development of breasts in men, infertility, and development of severe acne on the face and back. Other potential mental side effects of androgens include mood swings, periods of mania, paranoia, extreme irritability, jealousy and delusions.!!!!" other posts say they are just mixed nutrients and has no side effects. Please suggest what should i do ? 2. minoxdil 5 % 1ml twice - i believe this is orally taken ? does it have any side effects ? I could i also find posts saying rogaine (minoxdil 5%) foam or kirland minoxdil 5% foam are beneficial and external use. i am worried taking orally might cause sideeffects. plz suggest.

Brief Answer: details below Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for writing to us. 1) Androanagen is an oral hair supplement containing amino acids, minerals and vitamins along with saw palmetto and green tea extract. It has no side effects. Saw palmetto is useful as it has mild antiandrogenic effects. You can safely take it for five to six months. The side effects that you have mentioned are not at all seen with androanagen tablet. It is not an andrgen or testosterone supplement 2) My fault that I did not write that minoxidil has to be used topically. Mintop/adhair/tugain etc are Minoxidil 5 % topical solution only. 1ml of it has to be applied topically over scalp two times in a day. So it is not taken orally. Infact there is no preparation of minoxidil available as oral dose for hair fall. In nutshell, you can use both these products very safely without worrying about side effects. Hope this cleared your doubts. Take care

Thanks a lot :) i will buy Androanagen for 4-5 months stock as i stay outside india for long term. Lastly i need your guidenance on minodixil solution or foam based ? i see some reviews foam is better observed and some place liquid is better. as i go work early for cosmetic reasons liquid will not dry faster ? can i mix foam and liquid ? like foam in day and liquid in night? Lastly i found in XXXXXXX WWW.WWWW.WW this is also minoxidil 5% with many more ingredients : AzetinolTM, Saw palmetto, Ketoconazole, Emu Oil, Retinol, Procyanidin Oligomers:, GLA, ALA, Linoleic Acid and Oleic Acid. is lipogaine (liquid only) better than other minoxidil solutions? I am solely relying on your expert advice please guide me. Apologies if i am being too pro-active in looking for different solutions :). I am solely relying on your expert advice please guide me. Also andro anagen tablet is daily 1 i believe.

Brief Answer: details below Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for writing back. One tablet of Androanagen has to be taken daily. If you ask my personal preference, then I find liquid better than foam. As such foam has no edge over liquid as far as efficacy is concerned. Personally, I find foam more messy than liquid. So actually its your personal choice. There are many who prefer using minoxidil in combination with azelaic acid and retinol claiming it gives better results. But I prefer plain minoxidil or minoxidil in combination with aminexil. Retinol, azelaic acid may increase the irritant potential of minoxidil solution. Moreover it is plain minoxidil that is US FDA approved for androgenetic alopecia. So I would advise that you apply minoxidil 5 % solution 1 ml twice daily over scalp. Hope this answered your query. Take care

Brief Answer: details below Detailed Answer: Hi, I really appreciate the fact that you have researched so much about these hair products. Infact it is always easier to guide and counsel a well informed person. Minoxidil aminexil combination is available as amexidil/adhair/hair4u/gainehair etc. All are good, you my buy whichever is easily available Minoxidil use may initially lead to increased shedding of hair. But the hair that falls is actually destined to fall. So one should not worry much about this initial effect. This may usually be seen in first few weeks of minoxidil use. Hope this helped.
