Question: I was dismissed from pain management after 6 years for alcohol showing up on a drug test. I really just do not know what to do. I had a hysterectomy 2 months before i tested positive for alcohol. I did drink alcohol the night before i went to pain management doctor, but I do not drink alcohol on a regular basis nor have I ever taken my hydrocodone while drinking alcohol. I am just confused on what to do. I did not understand that I could never drink. If I did I never would have. I am just lost on what to do.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

By mistake you have disregarded your doctor's advice and coincidentally you have taken alcohol just before the day of testing and found positive. Whatever happened is happened you cannot change it. In that case you can accept your mistake, say sorry to your doctor and request to restart pain management with giving surety that you will not take alcohol. I guess your doctor will reconsider.

For a while you can take tylenol or ibuprofen for pain.

At last you can go to ER for withdrawal symptoms of hydrocodone and pain to restart the medicines.
