Suggest Medication For Pain Post Treatment For Cellulitis In The Lower Legs

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Oct 2015
Question: I have been treated for cellulitis in the lower right leg. I was hospitalised for 10 days. While in hospital. I received intravenous antibiotics - 3 different ones. I was released from hospital approx. 13 days ago and advised to take an antibiotic Cleocin. I received a phone call from the hospital doctor who advised me that one of the blood tests indicated that I may have an Auto Immune disease with reference to Primary Bilary Chirossis (?) and advised me to see my GP asapp. I saw my GP (16/09/2015) on Wednesday who advised me that he had not received anything from the hospital (public system). I have contacted my GP today and still no correspondence between the hospital and the GP. We have now been advised that all the tests have been sent to Royal Womans Brisbane Hospital and results should be available in 7-10 days time. Is there anything else that can be done as sometimes the pain is quite excruciating??

Brief Answer:
Pregabaline

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Your history suggests that you have vasculitis.
It is an autoimmune vascular inflammation which leads to ulceration.
Treatment in such cases is mainly steroid but it's better to wait till the time you receive reports.
You can take capsule pregabaline in consultation with your doctor.
This will help in relieving pain.
Hope this works.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Thankyou. I am a larger person - approx. 158kgs. In hospital they tried to do cultures but these were not identifiable.

I have allergies to Penicillum; Tetracycline; Valium and Intravenous Iodine - does this pregabaline fit into any of these groups? Will this prevent an ulcer from breaking out as my father used to get ulcers?

I have noticed that by constantly resting, it relieves the swelling and the pain but I am not a person to lay around all day. Initially the lower and 3/4 of the upper leg was discoloured and the skin just behind the knee broke open and was weeping. This has now healed. The colour in the upper leg is a pale blush of red now.

There is a very large red area approx. 8-10 inches wide band on the lower leg and this gets more noticeable after the leg has not been elevated along with the pain. There is also large dry areas where the skin is peeling away.

I have stopped taking the 'Cleocin' as my stomach contents likes to smile at me. Since taking the Telfast, I have relieved the itch. This is my experiment.

Can this going to be an ongoing problem or will it get better? Is there anything else I should do to assist in the healing potential?

Brief Answer:
It's safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the details.
Pregabaline is safe it doesn't belong to the groups mentioned by you.
It will only relieve your pain.
You mentioned relief in pain on resting which again suggests that your arteries are involved.
Just wait for the biopsy report.
Things would be clear when you get report.
You can discuss with your doctor regarding Pregabaline.
It's a good pain reliever.
Also continue with telfast.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
