Question: Dear Dr
Am primigravida my last menstrual period was 30/april/2014 am 37 weeks and 3 days
Because of my severe anxiety i planned on going to do planned c_section . Dr booked me on wednesday 21/january/ 2015 and prescribed for me dexamethasone injections for my baby's lungs .. I hope am not doing anything that can harm my baby but my situation cant help it as am overly stressed and Dr want the best for both of us . Am on sertaline 50mg od and xanax prn

I understand your concern..

Since your doctor has given dexamethasone injection, this will enhance the fetal lung maturity.. So the baby is unlikely to develop any breathing problem after birth..

It is always better to allow the nature to take its course and deliver vaginally.. But since you have an anxiety disorder, it would be a good decision to go for caessarian though there is no indication as such.. Patient coperation is very important in normal labour..

I would suggest to put prostagladin gel 4-6hrs prior to your surgery so that you get mild uterine contraction which will help in formation of lower uterine segment and better fetal well being.. This decision varies from doctor to doctor..
