Posted on Wed, 10 Jun 2015
Question: I had a cat scratch on my left toe on 3rd of may.... started initially with rabipur on day 0.. I have a medical officer in my neighbouring flat who askd me to get the further vaccines shots from govt health centre.. on day 3 i took vaccine from govt health centre. Again on day 7 i took rabipur from market since I was busy. bt on this day i came to know that the vaccine used in healthcare was vaxirab after asking casually... took vaxirab again on same day evening from healthcentre then on day 14 i took vaxirab... Please advice if I should take vaccines again considering the day 14 as 0 day with vaxirab...
In short my vaccines are day 0 rabipur, day 3 vaxirab, day 7 one rabipur morning and vaxirab evening, day 14 vaxirab....

Brief Answer:
You can carry on with any one

Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
Both Rabipur and Vaxirab are inactivated rabies virus vaccines. So, both are effective. However the composition is slightly different. But since both of them are able to produce antibodies in the body in response to vaccine, so you will get the effect by the way you have taken both the vaccines on different days.
Now, your last dose that is to be taken on 28th day is due , so i would advice you to get Vaxirab vaccination as on day 14th you have taken that.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.

Thanks for the immediate response dr.... was worried.... Also would like to know how a cat scratch has a chance of transmitting rabies if the rabies virus is said to be present in saliva of infected animal...And if the extra vaccines could cause any effect on formation of antibodies...I mean would it boost or decrease or no effect...?
thanks..

Brief Answer:
Chances are there.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Rabies is known to spread by cat bite also, if the cat is infected with rabies.
As far as vaccination is concerned, routinely we advice Rabies vaccination and Tetanus Toxoid only in case of cat bite.
But in case the exposure is severe and is high risk, then we advice preformed antibodies, but they are not indicated in your case.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
