Question: Hi, yes thats convenient. I am looking into antipsychotic medicines
I have heard aripiprazole is milder with side effects, what is the lowest dose you can take? I unfortunatly can be mildy in a state of psychosis that is harmless but effects my functioning, I have improved with counselling but would consider a medication if I have the option that my dr believes that it can be short term and I can recover

Brief Answer:
minimum dose of aripiprazole is 5mg.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

I have gone through your query.

You are in search of antipsychotic drug with minimal side effects. You want to take it for short-term.

Aripirazole has very minimal side-effects. There are very minimal extra pyramidal side effects. Also, metabolic side effects are very few. But it can cause troublesome akathisia (sense of inner restlessness with constant desire to move).

The minimum dose of aripiprazole is 5mg.

But, in my opinion and clinical experience, olanzapine is a much better antipsychotic than aripiprazole. The minimum dose of olanazapine is 2.5mg. As you want to take it for short-term, there would be no metabolic side effects like weight gain.

Kindly discuss this with your doctor.

Hope you find my suggestions helpful.

I wish you well.
Thanks.
