Suggest Dosage For Zyrtec

Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: I take Zyrtec D twice a day, about 12 hrs apart. I have been told to not take the Hydroxyzine HCL 25 mg tablet too close to thd dosage time for Zyrtec, yet the label with directions that came with the Hydrox. says to take it at night. My question is - when would be the best time to take the Hydrox given I take the Zyrtec at night.

Brief Answer:
Did the doctor know you take Zyrtec?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

These drugs do just the exact function. I will like to know if the doctor was fully aware of this. If yes, let me know but taking both increases the chances of you being too dizzy.

Let me hear back from you before giving a final verdict on this.

There are 2 doctors involved, one my pulmonologist and one is a dermatologist.
The dermo. prescribed the Hydroxy. because I have such awful itching on my back. He suggested I speak with the pharmacist as he wasn't that familiar with the allergy meds I am taking - the Zyrtec D, and I asked but really didn't understand her answer. Then I decided to try this approach at WebMD. I realize that the meds are both for allergies, but the Hydroxy is also for itching, so I want to take it, just don't want a conflict with the Zyrtec D as it really helps my allergies. I thought about taking the Hydroxy right in the middle between morning and night doses of Zyrtec D. However the label says to take the Hydroxy at night, which is when I take one of the Zyrtec D's. So, I am confused and asking for your best opinion of what I can do. Thx and God bless, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Zyrtec also works for itches!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Zyrtec also works for itches. I might have advocated for a higher dosage if your itches are not well controlled with zyrtec alone. However, I will recommend you take hydroxyzine in between both doses of Zyrtec. It is preferred t night because it makes you drowsy and sleepy. That is the reason why and not for any particular reasons.

I wish you well.
