Question: My wife has metastatic lung cancer and bone and nerve pain of "10" degree at times. She is presently on 10 mg oxycododone 4-5x Day .What might be the dose and frequency? What is the longest time frame you know during which Torodol has been used. What is incidence of GI bleeding? She has tolerated doses given in ER.

Brief Answer:
This is a good dose

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

There is no upper limit for dose of opioids like oxycodone. It has to be titrated to pain control. 10 mg 4-5times daily is a good dose and if it is controlling the pain then can be continued.

Ketorolac or Torodol can cause GI bleed but if covered with acid suppressing drugs like pantoprazole, then incidence is less than 3%. We have seen patients taking it for 3 -4 months at a stretch without much problems.

Hope this helps.
Regards
