For another 2-3 seizure free years atleast.
Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
I understand that you must be concerned a lot, but the fact is that he will have to take it for a long time. For now,if he manage to have next 2-3 years seizure free, then an attempt can be made to withdraw the drug. However,if he keeps having seizures at periodic intervals(like one seizure every year),then medicines will continue for life long.
The rule of the thumb is-that at least 2-3 seizure free years are required to make an attempt to taper and withdraw the drug.
Hope it helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

We had taken him to casuality at that time and while checking blood pressure, it has gone up to 185. so they have started Amlong 5 mg at hospital. On discharge also that medicine is prescribed for 1 daily in the morning. but on discharge the bp was normal, and he is not taking that medicine now. yesterday when checked bp it is 130/80. Today also when checked the bp is 140/90. Is it necessary to continue that medicine? There is no previous history of bp for my father. Pls. advice me.
BP can rise for some time after a seizure.

Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
BP can rise transiently after a seizure. You can keep the medicine(amlong) on hold for now but keep monitoring his BP on regular BP.Do a meticulous BP charting and if it again sets on an increasing trend again, then the medicine may have to be started.
Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.
