Question: My daughter has bipolar 1 and has not been helped by lithium or other medications. This week she has started taking Epilem and we hope that is the med for her. She is 39 and has had a very sad and disjointed life, and we are wondering how long before she might expect the Epilem at a starting dose of 200 mg daily to make a Difference?

Brief Answer:
Underdosed, adequate dose is 25mg/kg body weight.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns for your daughter.

Epilem 200 mg is a very low dose in my opinion.

Epilem is dosed according to weight of the person. The average dose is 25mg/kg of body weight. There will be visible difference in around 1 week, that too only after the adequate dose is given.

Kindly discuss this with your doctor.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Thanks.
