My suggestions and list, hope this helps :)

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Actually, this is a question that should be directed to your operating surgeon as only he can monitor your progress and the current state of bowels, but let me try as you have requested for help.

I am sure you must have already gone through the initial stage of being only on clear liquids (e.g. soups, tea, fruit juices, etc.), and then moved on to full liquids (e.g. vegetable soups, etc.).

The next step is to introduce a soft diet which is usually done by the 3rd week or earlier, depending on the individual-specific response. If you are currently already on a soft food diet (e.g. boiled vegetables, tender meat, cereals, etc.), then the next step is to introduce normal food with the exception of certain problem causing foods like oily food, spicy food, fried food, fatty food, etc; which are all difficult to digest and will also irritate your bowels.

I would recommend foods like:

+Baked or grilled lean meat
+Pancakes and apple sauce
+Boiled rice
+Ice creams
+Boiled vegetables (boiled till they are soft)

I would also like to emphasise on restricting all of the following:

+Coffee and tea if it irritates you
+Medications (without complete necessity and with a prescription only)
+Fried food
+Fatty food
+Spicy food
+Food from questionable restaurants or eateries
+Oily food
+Gluten (if you are sensitive or allergic to it)
or anything that can cause symptoms like unexplained diarrhoea or constipation, abdominal bloating, increased gas, heartburn, etc.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.

I was vacationing in new york and returned to california on December 1. I ate a lot of street food in New York. On my flight home, I had stomach upset and nausea already. In the evening of Dec.1 I vomited a lot and subsequently had diarrhea . I also had low grade fever for 1 day. Though I am better, with good appetite , my stools have remained not formed. It s not liquid diarrhea but some parts are just sandy or grainy and the others are like shredded. I have bloating and mild nausea, and continue to have abdominal cramps. What kind of infection do you think I have? Thanks.

Three days ago I went to the local emerg department with nausea , vomitting, dizziness , headache and strong abdominal pain . They took blood and urine samples, performed xray and ct scans. They gave me fluids, pain meds, gravol, and antibiotics intravenously. Nothing showed up on the tests they did. I began to have diarrhea twenty hours after being admitted to the hospital. They felt my illness was likely gastrointestinal . I was released from the hospital at my request. The pain has lessened dramatically in the last three days. My eyes have a yellow tinge to them, though are white where my eyelid sits. They also have a slight film, which seems like just clear fluid, over them.My stool is slowly becoming less watery but is very foul smelling and has changed colour. It is very dark; almost black. I suppose that the yellowing of my eyes is most troubling as this has never occurred before. Wondering what my next steps should be? Is this illness just running its course or should I be re-examined?
