Suggest An Alternative Birth Control Method Apart From Oral Contraceptive Pills

Posted on Thu, 25 Feb 2016
Question: Hi I currently have the Implanon implant in (I've had it in for about 9 or 10 months) and I have been experiencing very irregular periods that last for a long time.

I've been looking into alternative birth control methods and found out about the iud's. I was just wondering how they work, if theres any side effects and do you have to get them checked every month.

I was also wondering if there are any other birth control methods that are similar to these as I am worried about going on the pill because I know I will forget to take them.

Brief Answer:
Take off Implanon and use IUD

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for trusting to us.

While you have more than 5 months with implanon and you are experiencing irregular periods ,better take off implanon.

IUD's are very effective and safe because:
1.Don’t have to remember to take a pill at the same time daily
2. Minimal – if any – complications
3.Provide years of worry-free birth control
4. Ensure higher levels of privacy as they don't require frequent follow-up appointments and can't be "discovered"
5.Cost effective, and in the long run, should cost less than other birth control methods
6.Fewer menstrual cramps, lighter periods

There are two types of IUD :
a. hormonal (mirena)
b XXXXXXX IUD XXXXXXX IUD is cheaper than Mirena and is not hormonal ,to cause any side effect as implanon .

There are many other contraception methods like vaginal Caps and diaphragms but aren't comfortable and are costly .

Hence in my opinion you should take off Implanon and use Copper IUD .

ALL THE BEST

Thank you for your help.

Just with the IUDs do you have to do any follow up appointments once it is inserted?

Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Details are given below....

Detailed Answer:
Hi again!
Normally, you should should return after the first post insertion menses (three to six weeks), but not later than three months, for their first check up.

You should be strongly encouraged to go to the clinic anytime you have questions or problems, particularly if:
Your period is late (possible pregnancy).
You are experiencing prolonged or excessive abnormal spotting or bleeding.
You have abdominal pain or pain during intercourse.
You have been exposed to infection (such as gonorrhea), or has abnormal vaginal discharge or pelvic pain, especially with fever.
You cannot locate the IUD’s string or if the string seems shorter or longer.

If the you will be satisfied with the IUD and there are no precautions for continued use, then there is no need for further follow-up visits.

All the best
